Positive conditional form
This form translates as: “If one does (something).”
E.g. நாய்க்கு எலும்பைக் கொடுத்தால், அது உனக்குப் பின்னால் வரும். – If you give the dog a bone, he will follow you.
E.g. அவள் தனது அம்மாவிடம் கேட்டால், அவளது அம்மா அவளை எங்களோடு விளையாட விடக் கூடும் – If she asks her mother, her mother might let her play with us.
E.g. நிமிர்ந்து உட்கார்ந்தால், நிறையப் படிக்கலாம் – If you sit up straight, you can study more.
It is made by adding -ஆல் to the past stem. For example, the past stem of the verb சாப்பிடு (to eat) is சாப்பிட்ட், so the positive conditional form is சாப்பிட்டால்.
The conditional form remains unchanged even when the subject’s PNG alters.
E.g. அவள் மருந்து சாப்பிட்டால், அவள் தூங்குவாள் – If she eats the medicine, she will sleep.
E.g. அவன் மருந்து சாப்பிட்டால், அவன் தூங்குவான் – If he eats the medicine, he will sleep.

Negative conditional form
Translates as: “if one does not do (something)”
It takes all subjects and the tense of the finite verb and is made by adding a “ “ஆவிட்டால்” to the infinitive.
E.g. நீங்கள் வீட்டுக்குப் போகாவிட்டால், நானும் போகமாட்டேன் – If you do not go home, I will also not go.
E.g. நான் சொல்வதை கேட்காவிட்டால், கொன்று விடுவேன் – If you do not listen to what I say, I will kill you.
